Farm Opportunities Day

Farm producers, new farmers and youths are encouraged to attend a one-day training to help highlight commercial farm opportunities for West Virginians to make the most of their farm resources. Farm Opportunities Day pairs industry experts with local farmers to address the region-specific needs of the industry.

Registration Cost:
$10 if received by Wednesday , January 16, 2013
$20 if received after Wednesday , January 16, 2013
FFA, 4-H members and other persons under age 18, FREE!

Track Options

Participants can choose from one of four track options. To view a list of courses available in each track and to read a bio of the speakers, please click the hyperlink.

  1. Value-added animal production and marketing
  2. Season extension and institutional marketing
  3. Farm business management
  4. Risk management

Resource Fair

Approximately 20 businesses, organizations, and outreach institutions will be available during a luncheon resource fair. Attendees can make connections and learn about local business opportunities.

Representatives have backgrounds in everything from risk management to farm credit.

Locally Sourced Food

Local food is more than just a viable option for the dinner table; it’s a healthy, community-minded choice for events. Through collaboration with the WVU Extension Service Small Farm Center, all food served during the conference will be locally sourced.

The WVU Extension Small Farm Center continues to recruit producers in their efforts to source locally and meet the demand for their evolving menus. If interested, please contact 304-293-2715 to learn how to become a future producer for events like this.

Successful Aggregators and Marketers Panel Discussion

Local meat distributors, market gardeners, farm to school participants, agritourism advisors, community supported agriculture and kitchen supported agriculture operators will discuss the challenges and opportunities they have encountered in their pursuits.
